Online MessageBEIJING, Feb 29 (Reporter) — The National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) announced on the 29th that in 2023, the industrialization rate of invention patents held by Chinese enterprises reached 51.3%, an increase of 3.2 percentage points over the previous year, maintaining a growth trend for five consecutive years.

Enterprises are the main body of scientific and technological innovation, as well as the main body of patent output and transformation. Data shows that among China's domestically valid invention patents, enterprises account for more than 70%, with the number exceeding 3 million. For many years, CNIPA has continuously carried out the China Patent Survey. The latest "2023 China Patent Survey Report" shows that the industrialization rate of valid invention patents of Chinese enterprises has steadily increased, and the benefits of patent transformation and application have continued to improve.
In 2023, the industrialization rate of invention patents of national high-tech enterprises reached 57.6%, an increase of 1.5 percentage points over the previous year; the average industrialization benefit of invention patents used by Chinese enterprises for independent brand products was more than twice that of invention patents used for OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) products, highlighting the combined application benefits of patents and brands; among the industry-university-research cooperation carried out by enterprises, the proportion targeting key technologies or core components reached 56.1%, and such cooperation has played an important role in tackling key core technologies.
To effectively solve the problems of difficult patent transformation in universities and research institutes and difficult technology acquisition for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), recently, CNIPA and four other ministries jointly issued the "Implementation Plan for the Patent Industrialization Promotion Plan for SME Growth". In the next step, relevant departments will adopt a combination of "inclusive services + focused cultivation" for technology-based SMEs with innovation capabilities, promote SME growth through patent industrialization, and foster new drivers for high-quality development.
